Meet mother-daughter duo Adele and Hélène, co-owners of Retreat to Africa. The company is borne of their shared love of travel and their beautiful homeland, Africa.
Both are equally passionate about sustainable travel. Preserving our natural world and striving to connect travelers to magical moments on their journey, their purpose. To open the eyes and hearts of travelers, and inspiring them through the beauty of our natural world, a gift. Adele and Hélène both embody their company’s ethos in their daily lives. Living out their ‘kind to the earth’ lifestyle of plant-based eating, zero-waste philosophy, nature immersion, and alignment underpins their professional ethos. Their passion and deep love for what they do shines throughout their company. Taking a personal interest in designing and executing all client journeys, they dedicate themselves to traveling together, discovering exciting destinations and experiences to bring to their clients.
Adele Sinisterra
I have always loved Africa. Early memories of sitting in the back seat of our car watching an elephant bull charge up the road within a few meters of me, a dust storm while camping in the middle of the Namib desert, waking up with the sounds of a Kalahari San lullaby in Botswana were vivid life changing moments that shaped my path into African travel. I started out as a guide for Swiss travelers with my first travel company shared with my husband and later branched out on my own as manager of operations and travel planning. I bring 25 years of first hand product and destination knowledge to our company in the designing of bespoke beautiful experiences for my clients and get to do what I love most every day: sharing my love of nature and Africa with others.
Hélène Sinisterra
My childhood consisted mostly of travelling around South Africa in my families bumpy old 4×4, adventuring into some of the most wild and beautiful places our country has to offer. Of course, things couldn’t have been any other way with my mom being a tour operator and father a tour guide! I feel extremely blessed to have grown up this way and it has sparked a lifelong passion for travel in our beautiful Africa. Having been born and raised in the industry, it is only natural I have followed in my parent’s footsteps and I can honestly say I truly love my work. My role in the company is in marketing & sales, however you will often find me venturing out into the bush where I am my happiest, as well as leading some of our retreats and trips.
